PDF Online BookThere are many advantages to a PDF format online book. First of all, there are no publishing costs. Even if this were ever published it could not contain the numerous color photos, charts, and attachments that this format can provide. I also have seven Mp3 audio files in the book that supports the songs that I have associated with the chapters. For ease and navigation purposes I decided the most efficient way was to load the audio files in the book itself, thus the large overall file size (30 megs.) Of course the disadvantage is that you have to read this on a computer screen. The book including all the extra pages is a little over 100 pages. The book has security settings that do not allow printing, coping, or editing, although you can save it to your hard drive. If for any reason you should wish to print it in part or whole, email me and I can unlock it for you. My suggestion is to download the file to your desktop. That way if you click a wrong button the file won't have to reload. You can then view at your leisure. If you like keep it, if not, into the recycle bin it goes. Below is the preface and the epilog to give you an idea about the book. PrefaceThere was the video I produced, "Don't Marry the Dragon" that takes you on a journey into the heroin lifestyle. I wanted to write this book so it could reach more of an audience and cover more ground than the video alone—such as county jails; students on the move; and people who take public transportation; to mention a few. The idea for the title, "Hell Unleashed" came from an interview I heard on a local Seattle radio station a few of years ago. I was almost finished with the video when Layne Staley, a band member of Alice in Chains, died from a heroin overdose. In an interview, singer Sammy Hager was asked to comment on Staley's death. He said, “It (heroin) is the worst thing that has ever been unleashed on this planet.” I thought his comment to be descriptive, and very accurate. This book is similar to the video, but with more vivid detail. You are about to read my story. I have been through some unbelievable perils. Towards the back of the book on the reference page there are some documents available for your reading. Besides these, I have compiled an exhaustive documentation folder. It is available at your request by mail, or on our website. Contact information and links are also provided in the back of the book. One last thing, as ugly and horrific the heroin lifestyle is; it’s much worse than I depict in this book. It’s not only difficult to put into words; it is very hard for me to dwell on the darkness and despair of my past. My hope is that this book will reach the masses and yet if it helps just one person, my life has been worth it! EpilogAlthough I can read quite well, I don’t care much for reading. I would not be considered a "bookworm". Many of my friends who know this about me thought it strange that I would then decide to write a book. Well, just because I don't like to read doesn't mean the rest of the world feels the same way. One objective was to write a book that was detailed and concise, yet easy to read. Kind of like a reference book that reads like a novel, all wrapped around my personal testimony. I will leave you with this consideration; I wrote my book in order to share about God in my life. I don't think people should read a bunch of books and never read God's book. I would rather have you put aside the reading of this book, and pick up God's Word instead. His Word is recorded and collected in the 66 books of the Holy Bible. The Bible is far superior reading and can transform your life, unlike any other piece of literature. However, because many people would normally not pick up a Bible, perhaps they would read an account such as mine. I want to be clear in my ultimate objective, and that is to point you to Him. In Him, you will find the true meaning of life, and be able to have relationship with the living God! Excerpt From Book - Page 29Some addicts get tired of the war and just give up. They resolve themselves to the fact that they will always be a junkie, and they will die a junkie. Some go further in that mind set and lose the will to live, so they don’t really care if they die or not, very sad, by the way. It happens all too often. During my years being addicted, I have met many different people in the heroin lifestyle. Some I care about immensely, some I don’t think about or wonder much if I will ever see them again. A few will make honorable mention in this book, like Ed and Paula. I think our travels together are worth sharing. You could sum it all up by what my old partner whose name is Ed use to say, “Living as a heroin addict you end up stabbing people in the back, and with your friends, you just don’t put the knife in as deep.” Author |
